Shafaq News/ Independent MP Wafaa Al-Shammari said that Parliament unanimously rejects Article 42 of the Budget Law, on which voting has reached its final stages.

Al-Shammari told Shafaq News agency, "Currently, there is a discussion on the remaining articles, especially Article 15, which is related to appointment and confirmation of contracts for permanent staff, and that a number of governorates have been identified in appointing lecturers and administrators and appointing graduates, but we are in Parliament with the inclusion of all governorates without exception."
She added that Article 42 of the Budget Law, which provides for the imposition of taxes and fees on domestic and imported gasoline and on every traveler through Iraqi airports, was dropped among members of Parliament and there is no parliamentary approval for it, and if it is presented to a vote, it will be rejected and dropped from the law.
On Sunday evening, the Iraqi parliament passed about twenty articles of the federal budget law for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, before taking a break to complete the vote later in the day.
Shafaq News agency reporter from the parliament building said that the parliament has so far postponed passing Articles 15, 16, 17, 42, 43, 50 of the entire law, and voted on Articles 43 to Article 63, to complete the rest after its break.
He added that the Finance Committee will conduct further deliberations regarding the remaining controversial articles, in order to put them to a vote, including Article 64, which is awaiting a vote.
On March 13, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the draft budget law for the current year and the years 2024 and 2025, and referred it to the House of Representatives, "Parliament" for ratification.
The value of the current year’s budget is 197 trillion and 828 billion Iraqi dinars (about 152.2 billion dollars), with a total deficit of 63 trillion dinars (48.3 billion dollars), while the items of the budgets for the years 2023 and 2024 have not been published.
