Economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi pledged the implementation of the Iraqi-Iranian agreement regarding the payment of gas dues, with the approval of the United States of America.
Al-Marsoumi said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “the recent agreement between Iraq and Iran to barter each of them for one another is intended to enable Iraq to pay the price of buying Iranian gas and Iranian electricity and pay off the debts owed by it, which amounted to 11 billion dollars.”
He added, "The agreement is beneficial to Iraq, especially with regard to black oil, or what is called fuel oil, which is a waste of the refining industry. It is also called residual fuel and is used either as fuel in some electric power stations or as fuel used by marine tankers," noting that "Iraq exports nearly From 180,000 barrels per day of black oil in the anchor area at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, where tankers refuel with black fuel.
And he indicated that “the production capacity of black oil in Iraq amounts to more than 300 barrels per day, meaning that there is a surplus for export that part of it can go to Iran to pay its dues,” noting that “the problem with this agreement is the possibility of it being considered a violation of US sanctions on Iran, without The United States’ approval of it will not be implemented and will remain a dead letter because the latter had already given Iraq the option that it could either pay the value of electricity and gas in Iraqi dinars or a third currency, or by importing some of the humanitarian needs that Iran needs, such as food and medicine, for example.
He concluded by saying, "Using oil to pay dues for Iranian gas is a new issue, and we have to know the American reaction to this agreement."
Iraq and Iran had signed an agreement yesterday in Baghdad, under which the imported Iranian gas, which operates power plants, will be bartered with Iraqi crude oil and black oil.
