    Today, Wednesday, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced the launch of the fifth group of those covered by social assistance for this year, while indicating that the total number of families covered by the social protection assistance reached (7) million people.
    Al-Asadi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Ministry launched the fifth batch of those covered by the social assistance, amounting to 65,930 beneficiaries, where the names of the families included in the social protection assistance will be published today for the purpose of review and according to the timetables.”
    He pointed out that "the number of families received (below the poverty line) from the Ministry of Planning was 52,081 families, while the number of families received (above the poverty line) reached 13,849 families."
    He added, "We announce the opening of objections to all incoming families above the poverty line, with a total number of 26,625 for the previous four meals. Incoming families must review the social protection departments according to the timetables that will be announced on the ministry's website to submit an objection for the purpose of presenting it before the higher committees for social protection headed by a judge in Baghdad and the governorates." .
    He confirmed, "The social research has been completed for approximately one million and 950 thousand families, after their transactions have been audited, and the families will be included according to the timetables in new upcoming meals," pointing out that "the number of families covered by the social protection subsidy since the formation of the government on November 1, 2022 until now has reached 670 thousand families." 8,208 disabled and disabled people were included in the social protection subsidy, bringing the number of people covered by this category to 374,690 families, which is the highest in the history of previous governments, within the framework of supporting the most vulnerable groups in society. 
    He explained, "The data of more than 30,000 new families was updated for the purpose of including them in the double food basket, and networking was completed with the Ministry of Commerce for the first time, as the number of food baskets from the beginning of the year until the end of August reached more than 41 million food baskets and work is underway to prepare them." The food basket will last until the tenth month. Networking has also been made with the Ministry of Education, and the experimental data recording will begin at the beginning of next week,” indicating that initial indicators indicate the inclusion of more than two million and 400 thousand students, both male and female, with families covered by the social protection subsidy. 
    He pointed out, “In light of the government’s orientation towards the most fragile areas, we announce that the number of families for whom social research was conducted in the service and engineering effort areas reached 123,219 families, and social research for families will be conducted within the second service effort campaign,” pointing out that “ The exceeded amounts reached 170 billion dinars, with a rate of collecting 20 billion dinars in the second half of the current year.”
    He stated that “the collection process is still ongoing, as the Authority received 14,000 installment requests last August,” calling on “those who receive more than one salary to “voluntarily review the suspension of the subsidy, and the Ministry is prepared to pay the amounts they owe in installments, otherwise the recovery law will be applied to them.”
    He affirmed, "Stopping the procedure for recovering exceeding amounts owed by the martyrs, as stated in the text of the budget law, starting from September 1, 2023, for the purpose of extinguishing the amounts owed by them."
