Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf: Hussein Al-Kaabi
The Directorate of Roads and Bridges in Najaf, affiliated with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, announced that the implementation of the ancient land Hajj route is progressing at an increasing pace and within the specified timetables.
Director General of the Directorate, Falah Hassan Ibrahim, told Al-Sabah: The total length of the land Hajj road linking Najaf Governorate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is 239 km, and the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works has referred two stages of this road for implementation, at 50 km for each stage.
He stated that the Ministry plans to complete this vital project in four phases, explaining that the completion rate in the first phase of the project has reached 76 percent so far, as the length of the part that was paved in this phase reached about 25 km, in addition to pouring the sixth space of the Wadi Bridge spaces. Hassab, which is 288 meters long, rains and torrents accumulate in this valley in the winter, so it was decided to build this bridge to protect the road from torrents. Regarding the second phase of the project, Ibrahim added that the completion rate in this phase reached 47 percent, pointing out that the cost of the first phase of the project amounts to more than 33 billion dinars, while the cost of the second phase amounts to about 30 billion and 800 million dinars.
He continued that the project executing cadres dug several wells to provide water for the project’s work due to its long distance, noting that the directorate is awaiting the completion of the designs for the third and fourth phases for the purpose of including them in the Ministry of Construction projects in the coming years.
