Baghdad Governorate has intensified its efforts, in coordination with the security forces and administrative units, in order to follow up on generator contractors installing operating meters.
The Governor of Baghdad, Engineer Muhammad Jaber Al-Atta, told Al-Sabah: The governorate launched a campaign in coordination with local security agencies and administrative units, in order to follow up on the process of generator contractors installing electronic electrical meters in generators.
He added that the governorate decided, after conducting numerous studies of the generator file, to cancel the old mechanism used, because it violates the right of the citizen who pays the amounts even if national electricity improves and the generators are not equipped.
Al-Atta pointed out that the governorate obligated the contractors to complete the process of installing the meters until the end of this November in order to then begin collecting. Al-Atta noted that the governorate directed all the mayors and mukhtars to monitor generators without a meter, because that would expose the contractor to legal accountability because it is considered a violation of the governorate’s instructions regarding dealing with the generator file, and their receipt of the collection at the beginning of the month falls within the clear violations as well.
He pointed out that it is not possible for generator contractors to provide false information about operating hours, because the governorate will rely on the electricity departments to know these hours. In addition, the governorate will work to calculate the fixed generator expenses, including guards and operators, to ensure that contractors are not deceived.
