    Economy News - Baghdad
Baghdad Governorate announced, today, Sunday, that more than 80% of electricity generator contractors have complied with instructions for installing electronic meters, as part of efforts to improve the quality of electrical services and activate the collection system.

The governor, Muhammad Jaber Al-Atta, explained that committees have been formed in cooperation with the Prime Minister, National Security, and administrative units to follow up on generator contractors’ compliance with instructions for installing electronic meters, with the aim of using them to collect monthly fees.

Al-Atta indicated that the compliance rate ranges between 80% and 90%, as the governorate has taken strict measures against violators, including removing the generator and replacing it with another, and cutting off the fuel ration for violators.

He added that many contractors announced the suspension of operations in protest against the changes in the collection system, but the governorate’s instructions and support from the Prime Minister obligated them to adhere to the new instructions.

Al-Atta called on citizens not to pay any tax amounts to generator contractors and to report violating contractors via hotlines and administrative units, warning against collusion with violators, stressing that this will lead to an evaluation of the performance of local authorities and officials.
