Iraq renewed its rejection of encroaching on its sovereignty, against the backdrop of the American strikes that targeted sites inside Iraq, which Washington says are “groups supported by Iran,” while the Iraqi government says that this targeting took place without its knowledge, according to the official spokesman.
Member of the Parliamentary Defense and Security Committee, Yasser Watut, said in a press interview seen by Taqadum that “the American side does not adhere at all to Iraq’s calls not to repeat its strikes on sites in Iraqi territory.”
He added, “The solution to this problem must be exclusively in the hands of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”
Regarding the Iraqi side not being informed of these strikes, which was announced by the government, Watout explained that “the purpose of this government clarification is that the American side did not inform it of the nature of these strikes, neither previously nor currently.”
For his part, the security affairs advisor at the Center for Political Thinking, Majid Al-Qaisi, believes that Washington’s warnings to respond to the strikes on its forces were clear, especially the statement of the Foreign Minister, who said, “This situation cannot continue.”
Al-Qaisi said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam, “The United States of America will not abide by the promises it made to the Iraqi government, especially since there is a red line if its soldiers are killed inside American bases in Iraq, and there will certainly be a strong response.”
He added, “What is happening are only operations to worry and disturb the American forces present in Iraq, whether at the Ain al-Asad or Harir base.”
Al-Qaisi explained, “On the issue of whether these strikes were with the knowledge of the government or not, the Iraqi government can answer it, and it appears that what was discussed during the communication between the Sudanese Prime Minister and the American Secretary of State, they touched on this issue.”
He pointed out that “warnings to strike the Jurf al-Sakhar area were in place, and the United States announced, whether through its Secretary of State or spokespeople for the Pentagon and the White House, that there is pressure being put on President Biden, and these attacks cannot continue, as the number of attacks has reached 65 in Syria and Iraq.” On the other hand, the United States responded about 3 times deep into Syria.
He continued, “Therefore, the American forces must take a decisive stance, because they classified the attacks as threatening the American forces and their interests in the region.”
