Subhan Al-Mulla Jiyad, advisor to the Prime Minister, announced an expected development in the reality of electrical energy in Iraq during the summer of 2025, pointing to three main issues that will form part of this transformation.
Mullah Jiyad explained, in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that the first issue relates to the Gulf connection, which is expected to be completed soon, followed by the Turkish connection, which will result in the addition of about 2,500 megawatts to the electricity network, with a tangible impact that will be felt. Citizen mid-2024.
He pointed out the importance of the surplus energy that the Gulf interconnection will transfer to Iraq, which may motivate investors to enter the market and develop the electrical sector in light of the comfortable security atmosphere.
Mullah Jiyad addressed the second issue related to the construction of Iraqi thermal stations, where he referred to the simultaneous work on the Al-Kayyara station and the Anbar gas station, explaining that the completion of these projects requires two or three years. He also pointed to the potential progress in the Total project over the next two years.
Regarding the third issue, he stressed that effective work to increase the collection of electrical energy from citizens represents an indicator of the development of electricity in the country, indicating that a large percentage of the current energy is wasted due to the absence of collection, calling for programs to rationalize electricity consumption and activate electronic collection.
Mullah Jiyad stressed that taking these measures accurately and continuously, in addition to continuous follow-up, could lead to a noticeable improvement in the electricity situation in Iraq during the summer of 2025.
