Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The challenges facing Iraq are evident in achieving a delicate balance in its relations with the United States and Iran, as Iraq strives to maintain its independence and avoid involvement in regional escalation. Iraq's request to withdraw US forces and the international coalition shows its desire to avoid its involvement in regional conflicts, and in return, this position may strengthen Iran's influence in the region.
Analyzes believe that the Iraqi government is in an embarrassing situation, due to the unequal relationship between Iran and the United States. Recently, Iraq has issued contradictory statements trying to please Iran and maintain relations with the United States.
While Iraqi statements praise Iran's role in supporting stability in the region, there are those who show the need for American support, including the Iraqi government itself.
Iraq plays an important role in the balance between regional powers and major countries, and the Prime Minister appears to be seeking to maintain good relations with Iran and the United States. These contradictory positions reflect the great challenges facing the Sudanese in managing his country’s foreign relations.
He must avoid provoking regional tensions and preserve Iraq's internal stability.
Reports from the American Atlantic Council Institute warn of conflicting messages sent by the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani about the future of American forces in the country. The report addresses concerns that relations between Baghdad and Washington are approaching a period of intense tension, noting that this is reminiscent of the dynamics that prevailed during the Trump administration period after the attack on the leaders of the Quds Force, General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis.
Al-Sudani, despite his strong statements, provided a soothing message to the United States, stressing that the talks on ending the presence of the forces do not mean the end of the partnership with the international coalition, but rather the beginning of new bilateral relations.
The report indicates the importance of the coming months to know the position of the Iraqi government and whether it will submit a formal request to withdraw American forces.
The Iraqi Prime Minister's statements show a neutral strategy in dealing with the United States and Iran, as he tries to maintain a delicate balance in relations. This trend reflects the challenges of Iraqi foreign policy and the need to avoid involvement in escalation between the major powers. The question remains about how this strategy will continue and whether the statements are part of a sustainable diplomatic plan or merely consumptive statements for locals.
With Iran's growing influence in Iraq, the Iraqi government must adopt a neutral and independent strategy that allows it to benefit from cooperation with regional countries and Western countries alike.
Achieving a delicate balance in foreign policies can enhance Iraq's stability and contribute to achieving sustainable development.
“Security and economic challenges, along with regional pressures, remain real challenges for Iraq, but a balanced and wise strategy may be the key to moving forward towards a more stable and sustainable future.”
