The total quantities of oil imported by Jordan from Iraq increased by 51% during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, according to figures issued by the Jordanian Petroleum Refinery Company.
According to figures issued by the company, the quantities of oil imported by Jordan from Iraq amounted to 1.361 million barrels, compared to 900,000, according to figures from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil.
The increase in quantities is mainly due to an increase in contractual quantities, as the rate of supply of Iraqi oil to the Kingdom of Jordan has increased since last August from 10,000 barrels per day to 15,000 barrels, constituting approximately 15% of the Kingdom’s daily need for crude oil.
Jordan is still buying Iraqi oil at preferential prices over the world price ($16 per barrel less than the price available internationally).
Jordan's supply of Iraqi oil is currently taking place at a rate of 15 thousand barrels per day using 70 to 80 tankers that cross Jordan on a daily basis, divided equally between Jordanian and Iraqi tanks, bringing the total monthly quantities transported to approximately 450 thousand barrels.
Transportation takes place directly from the modern Kirkuk refinery, so that the quantities are unloaded at the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company facilities.
Earlier in July, Jordan and Iraq announced an agreement to increase the quantities of Iraqi crude oil exported to Jordan, as the Iraqi side agreed to increase the quantities under the same contractual terms, contained in the memorandum of understanding for crude oil processing signed between the governments of the two countries on May 4 of the year. 2023.
