Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Iraqi citizens are suffering from increasing cases of fraud by fake tourism and travel companies that lure those wishing to travel, take their money, and then disappear without providing any services.
In recent months, the Iraqi authorities have carried out surprise raids and searches of the offices of these companies spread across the capital, Baghdad, which led to the closure of 12 tourism and travel offices and companies in Baghdad and other governorates due to fraud.
These companies operate without any license or legal guarantees, which makes it difficult to track them or hold them accountable.

    Details of recent incidents

In Najaf Governorate, a fake company defrauded more than 200 citizens and lured them with offers to travel to Lebanon and Syria.
The company received more than 100 million Iraqi dinars before it disappeared completely, leaving citizens in a state of shock and frustration.

    The spread of the phenomenon

Frauds by unlicensed travel companies are repeated annually, causing huge financial losses to citizens and increasing distrust in the tourism and travel sector in Iraq.
In Baghdad alone, there are many companies operating without licenses, making it difficult for citizens to distinguish between legitimate and fake companies.

    Feedback and Actions

Many citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with this phenomenon, calling on the government to take strict measures against these companies.
For its part, the authorities confirmed that they will continue raids and inspections to ensure the protection of citizens and hold those responsible for these fraudulent operations accountable.

    Advice for citizens

Experts advise citizens to verify companies' licenses and verify their reputation before dealing with them. It is also preferable to seek recommendations from friends and family or rely on well-known and trusted companies to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.
There are no accurate statistics on the number of unlicensed companies in certain areas of Iraq. However, it can be said that this phenomenon is widespread in major cities such as Baghdad and Najaf, where there are many fake companies that exploit citizens’ desire to travel.

In Baghdad, for example, 12 travel and tourism offices and companies were closed due to fraud, but the actual number of unlicensed companies may be much higher. In Najaf, one company defrauded more than 200 citizens, indicating that there are a large number of similar companies operating without licenses.
If you need more accurate information, it may be helpful to contact the appropriate government agencies or follow local news for updates on this topic.
The problem of fake tourism and travel companies greatly affects the image of Iraq as a travel destination.
Repeated fraud leads to a loss of trust between citizens and tourism companies, and this loss of trust also extends to foreign tourists who may hesitate to visit Iraq for fear of falling victim to fraud.
With the increase in fraud cases, many people avoid dealing with local tourism companies, which leads to a decline in the number of tourists and visitors, and this decline negatively affects the local economy, which depends heavily on tourism.
