On Monday, Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari opened the color printing factory for national cards with advanced specifications.
A statement from the ministry, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, stated that “Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, opened the color printing factory for national cards, which was contracted by the Police Martyrs’ Fund in cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence, and in partnership with a German company. The opening ceremony was attended by the German Ambassador to Iraq".
Al-Shammari confirmed, according to the statement, that “this long-awaited factory will secure the actual need for a national card with advanced specifications that cannot be forged and bear security marks, and that it will enable Iraq to print the card quickly inside the country,” indicating that “a citizen who will apply for the card recently will receive a colored card while the non-colored national card will continue to work, and if its validity period expires, any individual can obtain a colored card.”
He pointed out that "the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed that the national card be the basic document for the citizen and that it be relied upon in all his transactions," noting that "the number of national cards that have been granted to citizens so far has reached about 39 million cards, and this factory will end the delay in issuing the national card."
