Today, Monday (July 1, 2024), the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, opened the first factory for issuing the colored national card in Iraq.
The Ministry of Interior stated in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that its Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, "opened the color printing factory for national cards, which was contracted by the Police Martyrs Fund in cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence, and in partnership with a German company. The opening ceremony was attended by the German Ambassador to Iraq."
Al-Shammari said in the statement, "This long-awaited factory will secure the actual need for a national card with advanced specifications that cannot be forged and bear security marks, and that it will enable Iraq to print the card quickly inside the country."
He added, "The citizen who will newly apply for the card will receive a colored card while the non-coloured national card will continue to be used. If its validity period expires, any individual can obtain a colored card."
Al-Shammari stressed that “the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed that the national card be the citizen’s primary document and must be relied upon in all his transactions,” indicating that “the number of national cards that have been given to citizens so far has reached about 39 million cards, and this factory will end the delay.” In issuing the national card.
