    Alsumaria News - Politics

Al-Maliki said in televised statements followed by Sumaria News, "The Coordination Framework is keen on completing the political process and electing a Speaker of Parliament and has initiated more than one initiative in this regard," noting that "the last of which was in a meeting that included all parties and we agreed that one of the parties of the Sunni component would take the position of Speaker of Parliament in exchange for giving up a ministry."

He explained that "we agreed to hold a second meeting to finalize the details of the agreement, but they were late to the meeting and sent a letter backing down from the agreement and returning to square one."

He pointed out that "we do not object to the elections within parliament being the decisive factor for the position of parliament speaker, but in appreciation of the developments and entrenchments that have begun to take a different direction within the Sunni component, we want them to be resolved by consensus."

He explained that "today we have a majority of 54 members of the House of Representatives from our Sunni brothers, versus the other party of Sunni representatives," indicating that "the majority going to propose the name of a candidate in agreement with the other party will facilitate the process of choosing the candidate and voting for him."
