The Pharmacists Syndicate confirmed on Wednesday that all imported medicines are subject to laboratory tests in Iraq, and while explaining the inspection mechanism, it confirmed the implementation of 4,000 inspection tours to seize fake shops and control the circulation of medicines.
The head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Haider Fouad, said: "All medicines imported by the public and private sectors are subject to laboratory tests, and there are centers for drug control and research in Baghdad, Najaf and Basra to examine medicines."
He added that "the Ministry of Health registers pharmaceutical preparations, where there is an initial examination of all preparations," indicating that "imported medicines fall within the Drug Control and Research Center, and each medicine has a period determined by the work mechanism present in the control center," noting that "the control center operates within the conditions of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization in all standard conditions that require drug testing."
He pointed out that "the Pharmacists Syndicate conducted 4,000 inspection tours that included visiting pharmaceutical establishments, and we have a follow-up committee for drug stores and offices, and we will not allow any pharmacies or scientific offices to promote any substance that is not subject to specifications," explaining that "pharmacists are more keen to deliver safe medicine to citizens."
Fouad confirmed that there is high coordination between the Pharmacists Syndicate and the executive authorities from the National Security and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime to monitor fake shops and control the circulation of medicines," and he explained that "in the event of violations, the Pharmacists Syndicate refers the pharmacist to the competent disciplinary committees in implementation of the Pharmacists Syndicate Law No. 112 of 1967."
