Parliamentary Committee: Political Support Behind Corruption in Iraqi Ports

The parliamentary investigation committee into Iraqi ports revealed the existence of “political support” behind the “corruption” of ports in Iraq.
The head of the committee, MP Yasser Al-Husseini, said that “there are corruption files and legal, administrative and financial violations committed by the General Company for Iraqi Ports,” adding that “day after day, we are exposed to many problems caused by this company and its current management, which wastes trillions, not just billions, of money.”
He added that “there are contracts that are not in line with the true vision of the state and the systems and laws in force.”
He explained that “all contracts concluded by the company from 2019 until today are contracts that drain the country’s revenues.”
The member of the House of Representatives indicated that “the investigation will be completed and the file will be referred to the presidency of parliament and then to the judiciary and the government in order to dismiss or withdraw the hand of the current administration and refer it to investigation and the judiciary.”
He continued, “The political support that this party has is what hinders the progress of this matter, in addition to concealing many files and misleading the committee with other files in order to occupy it and distract the investigation.”
