After Al-Sudani's invitation... Will Baghdad be the first foreign destination for the new Iranian president?

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has extended an official invitation to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Baghdad, amid joint efforts to continue cooperation on bilateral and regional issues. If the Iranian president accepts the invitation, it could be his first foreign visit since taking office.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, conveyed Al-Sudani’s invitation to Pezeshkian to visit Baghdad, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Hussein congratulated his Iranian counterpart on assuming the position of Iranian Foreign Minister, expressing his hope that “the two countries will continue to cooperate and interact closely on various issues related to bilateral relations and important regional and international issues.”
Baghdad and Tehran are committed to joint agreements and understandings, security, political and economic, and the governments of the two countries seek to strengthen these relations. The Iraqi side did not disclose the invitation to the Iranian president and its details, while Araghchi confirmed it, stressing “the importance of the special effort made by the new Iranian government and its president Pezeshkian to expand and deepen relations comprehensively between the two neighboring and Muslim countries.” He expressed his thanks for the invitation to visit
The Iraqi and Iranian sides are interested in several common files, including the regional situation in light of the accelerating events in the region, especially the Gaza war and the possible Iranian response to the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
Among the common issues that Iraq and Iran are keen on is controlling and securing the common border, and the security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran, which stipulated the removal of the Iranian opposition from the areas of the Kurdistan region near Iran and the disarmament of it. Iraq has fully implemented this agreement, while Tehran, which is very keen on this agreement, promised not to carry out any strikes on the region if Iraq adheres to the terms of the agreement.
Security and economic memoranda of understanding were also supposed to be signed between Baghdad and Tehran, but they were postponed following the assassination of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, before being reviewed by the acting Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, who visited Baghdad on June 13, in preparation for signing them in the coming period. Bagheri stressed that Iran is keen to continue cooperation with Iraq in all fields, and that the visit is very important in this regard.
The late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was expected to visit Iraq on May 28, to sign a series of security, political and economic agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries, including the decision to lift visas, cancel double taxation, and coordinate in the field of joint oil fields between the two countries, which are still not exploited until now.
