Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is promoting the Trump Organization’s new cryptocurrency platform, which has just been rebranded from The DeFiant Ones to ""World Liberty Financial.""
In a post to his 90 million followers on the X platform, the former president shared a video of himself with a voiceover: “This afternoon, I’m laying out my plan to make sure the United States is the ‘crypto capital of the planet.’ They want to strangle you. They want to strangle you out of business. We won’t let that happen.”
It was not clear who Trump meant by "they," and a Trump campaign spokesman did not immediately respond to questions about CNBC's ad.
In his post, Trump tagged a verified X account called World Liberty Fi, or WLFI for short. The account has more than 20,000 followers and a handful of posts that began on August 22.

The project also includes Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
The cryptocurrency project’s accompanying Telegram channel, which has also been renamed World Liberty Financial, has more than 52,000 subscribers as of Thursday morning and is growing.
The announcement comes a day after Trump launched a new round of his own NFT trading cards.
What is World Liberty Financial?
Until Thursday, it was unclear what exactly World Liberty Financial would do, or whether the project was ready to launch.
Two of Trump's sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., have given differing accounts of what the digital bank plans to offer users.
Trump's eldest son recently said the family is working on developing a cryptocurrency platform that would rival the traditional banking system.
“I think there’s been a lot of inequality where only certain people have access to finance, so obviously this idea of decentralized finance is very attractive to people like me who have been locked out of banks,” Donald Trump Jr. said in a speech at a campaign rally.
Meanwhile, Eric told the New York Post that the project involves digital real estate, which could mean tokenizing real-world assets or referring to selling digital copies of assets in the metaverse.
The former president last week described the project to his 7.5 million followers on Truth Social as a way to “take a stand — together.”
“For too long, the average American has been squeezed by the big banks and financial elite,” Trump wrote.
