Iran will begin exporting gas to Iraq in the near future, the executive director of the National Iranian Gas Company Hamid Reza Iraqi said today.
"We have held talks with Iraq over the past two days and the banking procedures have been set in order to start exporting gas to Iraq, where about 50 million cubic meters of gas will be exported daily," an Iraqi said in a speech at the 22nd oil and gas exhibition in Tehran. "According to the Iranian Tasnim agency.
He added that "talks continue between Iran and Oman on the export of gas, and Georgia has paid funds for the import of gas from Iran."
The Iranian and Iraqi sides signed a memorandum of understanding on the export of Iranian gas to Iraq in 2009, which later turned into an agreement that provided for the export of Iran from 20 to 25 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq.
In October last year a second agreement was signed on the export of Iranian gas to Iraq and it was agreed to transfer from 25 to 40 million cubic meters of gas to secure the fuel station "Shatt al-Basra".
