US President Donald Trump announced that the Russian and Iranian presence in Syria is only a result of mistakes made by the former US administration led by Barack Obama.
"If President Obama had done what he should have done, I think we would not have seen any presence of Russia and Iran in Syria today," Trump said in an interview on Tuesday after talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
Asked about his views on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Trump said: "I am not a fan of Assad."
The American president said that what Assad did with that country and with human values is terrible.
"There have been terrible acts and acts against humanity, including attacks with poison gas, and that was a dark day for that country," he said.
He stressed that Assad did so several times under President Obama, bypassing the "red border"
