The parliamentary security and defense committee on Thursday denied the resignation of Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, commander of the armed forces, to the Peshmerga forces for redeployment in the disputed areas.
A member of the committee, Nayef al-Shammari told the Journal News that "Abadi was successful in extending state authority and law enforcement in various regions of Iraq."
He added that "Abadi did not make any concessions to the Peshmerga forces for redeployment in the disputed areas," noting that "the central government is continuing to impose the law and the Constitution throughout Iraq."
He pointed out that "the problem of the disputed areas between Baghdad and Erbil, we hope to be resolved in accordance with the legal and constitutional framework without resorting to the use of force between the parties."
The Liberal bloc has excluded on Wednesday the use of Prime Minister Haider Abadi, the armed forces against the Peshmerga forces to impose control over the disputed areas, asserting that the Kurdish deputies are now exercising their role in parliament after the break, as there are signs to resolve the differences between Baghdad and Erbil.
