Oil prices rose slightly after a volatile session exceeded the price of US crude during which $ 75 a barrel for the first time in more than three years, before retreating and recovering losses later.

Oil rose early in the session on supply concerns, before falling as investors headed for profit ahead of the July 4 holiday in the United States, betting that the global supply shortfall will not last as expected .

US light crude <CLc1> was up 20 cents at $ 74.14 a barrel, recovering from a session low of $ 72.73 a barrel. In early trade, the contract rose to $ 75.27 a barrel, its highest level in three and a half years.
    Brent crude <LCOc1> rose 46 cents to $ 77.76 a barrel after trading at a low of $ 76.67 and a high of $ 78.85 a barrel.
Early gains came after Iran appeared to threaten to disrupt oil shipments from the Middle East if Washington went ahead with sanctions. US crude rose above $ 75 a barrel for the first time since 2014.
