The State Department has revealed that Iran is cutting off 42 rivers that feed Iraq with water.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a press statement: "The Iranian authorities have cut 42 rivers that feed Iraq with water, without warning."

"Iraq is facing great damage because of the negotiating behavior with the riparian countries," Mahjoub said. "The southern part of Iraq is facing a difficult phase because of the cutting off of water coming from Iran."

Iraq is facing a serious water crisis that has led to the withdrawal of vast land from the agricultural plans, as well as a sharp decline in the level of water in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, along with the expansion of the tongue saline in the Shatt al-Arab.

The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that the salinity of Shatt al-Arab has reached a high rate that can not continue the usual use of water in the province of Basra, because of Iran's continuing to "throw"
