Russia imposes additional tariffs of up to 40% against US goods

The Russian Economy Ministry said in a statement on Friday that Prime Minister "Dmitry Medvedev" signed a decision to impose additional tariffs ranging from 25% to 40% on some imports from the United States as a retaliation against Washington fees.
Additional Russian import duties on fiber used in the transmission of light signals, road construction equipment, metal processing and mining will be applied, according to the statement.
Russian Economy Minister Maxim Ureshkin said his country would impose duties on goods with Russian-made alternatives.
"These additional fees are designed to compensate for losses caused by US tariffs," Orckin said, adding that Russia had the right to do so in accordance with WTO rules.
Moscow estimated the total losses on Russian exports as a result of US tariffs at $ 537.6 million, noting that its countermeasures would only offset $ 87.6 million.
Further compensatory measures would be taken in March 2021.
