The new Iraqi president, Barham Salih, is trying to get rid of the responsibility to sign death sentences issued by the judiciary, while facing charges from various blocs and forces under pressure from certain quarters to disrupt the provisions, in a move to embarrass him.

The new Arab quoted sources in the Iraqi Justice Ministry as saying that "Saleh does not support the death sentences, and tries to ignore the signing of any sign of death," asserting that "there are provisions postponed since the presidency of Fuad Masum, has not been considered by Saleh so far."

"The Justice Ministry will give up its full responsibility when it submits to the presidency, and it will be responsible for implementing the provisions, provided they are completed and signed by the Ministry of Justice," she said. Before the president. "

The Iraqi constitution requires the signature of the President of the Republic to implement the death sentences issued by the Iraqi judiciary, accused of haste in such judgments, and the adoption of confessions extracted from the defendants under torture and extortion.

Political blocs are trying to embarrass Saleh, accusing him of succumbing to political pressure, which delayed his signature on death sentences.

"The delay in signing the death sentences has been witnessed since Jalal Talabani was president of the Republic, and remained the case with former President Fuad Masum," said MP Amer al-Fayez.

He stressed that "the problem of death sentences fluctuates between the presidency and the Ministry of Justice, where the latter accuses the presidency that it does not ratify the death sentences," referring to "the existence of political pressure exercised to delay the implementation of death sentences, especially with terrorists who must be executed as soon as possible" .

He stressed that "there is no convincing reason for the Kurds to pressure the president to delay the death sentences."

Iraqi human rights organizations have criticized the courts' insistence on executions, while the judiciary has not been able to shake off partisan pressure.

"The death sentences do not achieve justice in Iraq, especially in light of partisan and political domination of all state institutions, including the judicial institution," said Amjad Jassem, head of the Justice for Iraq organization. "The verdicts are not without political and partisan motives, Stop as soon as possible ".

He stressed that "the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani tried to get rid of the responsibility to sign them, but political pressure forced him to continue, as happened also with former President Fuad Masum," calling on President Barham Saleh to "overcome pressure and not to sign the provisions, .
