    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Ministry of Electricity confirmed on Monday that Iran has reduced the supply of Iraq with natural gas from 25 million to four million cubic meters, while stressing that Iraq needs three years to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity.
"The production of electricity in Iraq, with the exception of the Kurdish region in the north of the country, decreased by 27 percent," said ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa in an interview with "Bloomberg" and seen by "The Economy News", noting that "Iran used to export 25 million cubic meters of Natural gas per day to Iraq, but the quantity has decreased to 4 million cubic meters only in recent months. "
He added, "This decrease has caused diminished electricity production from more than 19,000 to less than 14,000 megawatts."

"Bloomberg" stated that the pipeline that had been established between Iran and Iraq during the past seven years "failed" to raise the amount of gas exported to Baghdad to 75 million cubic meters per day, as was announced, and deliveries reached a peak of 27 million cubic meters.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity Abbas Jabr stressed that "Iraq needs three years to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity."

It is noteworthy that Iran contains one of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world, and is considered among the ten largest oil producers in the world and the five largest natural gas producers.
