(Baghdad: Al Furat News) Baghdad will host, today, Saturday, its first international water conference sponsored by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi for the period from 13 to 14 March, to discuss water and food security and other files.

The conference will be attended by governmental and international bodies and United Nations organizations concerned with water, in addition to the Arab League and the riparian states with Iraq, while it will be held under the slogan (planning and rational management of water resources to achieve their sustainability).
Aoun Diab, advisor to the Ministry of Water Resources, said in a press interview, "The conference, which will be held at the Babylon Hotel, will discuss a group of international research, studies and experiences on water resources, with a focus on cooperation in the field of common rivers between Iraq and the neighboring countries."
For his part, the ministry’s spokesman, Ali Radi, said, “The conference aims to overcome future challenges facing the sustainability of water provision, in line with national requirements and the international mobilization of Iraq’s position for shared water with neighboring countries and to benefit from scientific expertise to develop our water resources and develop the infrastructure. Which suffered deterioration due to ISIS terrorist gangs in the last period, as well as to increase awareness and the global national and regional level for water conservation.
He added, "The themes of the conference include strategic planning, integrated management of water resources, water and food security, both internally and externally, challenges of climate impact, regional and international cooperation to reduce water shortage and the impact of terrorist acts on the water system, ways to avoid its risks and reduce the impact of natural disasters."
