BAGHDAD - Mawazine News
, the Ministry of Water Resources confirmed, on Friday, holding meetings and continuing official correspondence with Turkey, Iran and Syria, to resolve the water file and agree to share the damage during the period of water scarcity and lack of water revenues, while reassuring citizens of the abundance of water during the current summer season.
"The levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, during this period of each year and after the end of the winter agricultural season and until the start of the summer agricultural season, which will be started during the next two weeks, reduce consumption and water releases, to maintain Water in dams and reservoirs. "
Radi added, "The ministry launches during this period the quantities that are really needed, such as drinking water and some simple horticulture, as well as other uses such as the share of marshes and hydroelectric, industrial and sanitary uses, in a calculated manner to fulfill the purpose and meet all needs."
He pointed out that "after two weeks, water releases will be increased immediately after the summer plan is started, and water levels will rise in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers." Task".
He explained, "This procedure is important and coincides with the scarcity and the lack of water releases that plague the region in general, due to the decrease and lack of rain, as well as the climate changes that have greatly affected the region, specifically on the upstream countries and the higher countries in Turkey, Iran and Syria, as well as Iraq, which is most affected as it is from Downstream countries. "
He explained, "The revenues of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers decreased by 50% from their rates during the past year, so the Ministry held a meeting with the Syrian side and technically communicated with the Turkish side, to agree on sharing the damage caused by the lack of revenues due to climate change, according to the agreement signed between countries."
He pointed out that “the ministry’s utilization of water and the high revenues that were achieved during the year 2019 and beyond, and the revenues achieved during the past period, and the ministry’s plans for rationing according to need, led to the availability of water storage in the dams and reservoirs of the Tigris and Euphrates revenues,” reassuring citizens of “the abundance of water” For the current summer season and the next winter season, provided that everyone abides by this important wealth.
