Today, Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf announced the recovery of a property belonging to the Iraqi embassy in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, and the issuance of title deed for two plots of land, one of which Iraq bought in 1989 in Mauritania, while the second was granted to Iraq in 1982 in the capital of the Republic of Mali (Bamco).
Al-Sahaf said in a statement to the official agency, followed by the “National News Center”: “In view of the efforts adopted by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow up on Iraqi funds and real estate, property No. 58 of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq was recovered from local investors and fined them with the sums of late rent,” pointing out that “a judgment was obtained.” A discriminatory judicial order obliging the Abdullah Nuwaikad Foundation to pay the amounts owed by it to the Iraqi embassy and obtaining a presidential order to oblige this institution to pay.”
He added, "A title deed was issued for the plot of land No. 62 that Iraq bought in 1989 after long negotiations with the Mauritanian Ministry of Finance," noting that "the file of the accounts of the Mauritanian Sanim Steel Company, in which Iraq is considered the largest shareholder, was closed."
He pointed out that "the work was achieved in high-level coordination between the Iraqi embassy in Nouakchott and the competent authorities in Mauritania, which showed readiness, facilitation and high flexibility in completing the procedures."
And he revealed "the issuance of the title deed for the Iraqi plot of land in Bamko, the capital of the Republic of Mali, which was granted to Iraq in 1982."
