Iran is preparing to hijack the vacuum of Ukrainian exports to Iraq

It seems that Iran, which exports to Iraq about 8-9 billion dollars annually, is moving to exploit about half a billion additional dollars that it may obtain from Iraq instead of Ukraine, which has been witnessing military operations and the invasion of Russia for days, amid expectations that the commercial movements of the two warring countries with the rest of the world may slow down.
According to the statistics of the Ukrainian State Administration, the volume of trade exchange between Ukraine and Iraq in 2018 exceeded the amount of 644 million US dollars, and services 25 million US dollars, with a very positive trade balance in favor of Ukraine.
Among the group of products exported from Ukraine to Iraq, which have a specific weight in the export structure, are animal or vegetable fats and oils, (42.2%), ferrous metals (40.5%) and edible meat, and (6.9%) Milk and dairy products, table eggs, honey (2.8%), cereal products (1.6%), sugar and sweets (0.8%) and edible fruits and nuts (0.7%).
In the field of services, Ukraine provided Iraq in 2018 with tourism-related services 3.4% and transportation services - 2.3%, and Iraq ranked sixth in the classification among more than 15 countries in which exports of goods from Ukraine grew more than others, which amount to 164, 9 million US dollars, and Iraq occupies 11th place among the 15 most countries as a partner in exporting goods from Ukraine.
This figure, which exceeds half a billion dollars, which is equivalent to about 6% of the volume of Iranian exports to Iraq, seems to have "tempted" the Iranians to obtain it due to the export of Iraq's needs of the materials it was importing from Ukraine.
A member of the Board of Directors of the Joint Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, Hamid Hosseini, stated that following the current developments in Ukraine, Iraq's imports from this country will decrease and Iran will be able to acquire its share in the Iraqi market.
"Ukraine had a large share in the Iraqi market, and foodstuffs and minerals accounted for a large share in exports to Iraq, which was welcomed thanks to publicity," Hosseini said in a statement carried by Fars news agency on Sunday. He pointed out that commodities such as construction iron were exported from Ukraine to Iraq by Kuwaiti traders, adding that in the field of foodstuffs such as grains, pasta, chicken and eggs, Ukraine also acquired a large share of the Iraqi market, but in view of the war, Iraq must have an alternative to supply it with these goods.
Hosseini also clarified that Iran and Turkey are among the first countries that can meet the needs of Iraq, adding that Ukraine was one of the strongest countries in the field of exporting food commodities, as it can supply 600 million people with this kind of goods, and is considered the eighth country in the world in terms of mineral reserves.
He went on to say that uranium, manganese, iron ore and coal were among the goods produced by Ukraine and were a strong competitor in the Iraqi market.
The Iranian official considered the developments in Ukraine as an opportunity for Iranian businessmen to acquire a greater share in the Iraqi market and to increase the export of construction iron and steel to this country.
Husseini noted that "if properly planned to meet Iraq's need for foodstuffs and minerals, it is possible to rapidly increase exports to this country and obtain a greater share in the Iraqi market." In the same context, a member of the Sulaymaniyah Governorate Chamber of Commerce announced a complete halt to imports from Ukraine, which caused serious damage to traders in this sector.
He said that Iranian and Turkish goods will replace foodstuffs, fruit juices, various washing powders and coal imported from Ukraine.
