    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture attributed the fluctuation in the prices of table eggs to the pumping of large quantities by producers, in addition to the continued smuggling of eggs to Iraq, noting that the government has not yet responded to the demand to support producers with feed.
Ministry spokesman Hamid Al-Nayef said in a press interview, "The drop in egg prices in local markets is due to local producers pumping large quantities of eggs into local markets, in addition to the entry of smuggled eggs from abroad, which affected the stability of their prices, despite the presence of self-sufficiency in local production.
He pointed out that "the border crossings are not under control, and therefore quantities of eggs are smuggled in," noting that "the ministry called on producers to set the pace of prices so that there would be no excuse to open imports."
He added, "The ministry asked the government to support the producers with feed, but there is no response until this hour on the pretext of the lack of financial liquidity and matters are subject to budgets and to the Council of Ministers."
He stressed that the ministry "demanded the support of not only the poultry sector, but the entire agricultural sector to advance it to be an active contributor to the national economy."
It is noteworthy that the price of eggs decreased to reach 4,000 dinars per layer after it exceeded 7,000 dinars during the past three months, which led to local egg producers calling for their subsidy with feed as a result of the drop in egg prices and incurring financial losses, according to their claim.
