Shafaq News/ Diyala representatives in the Iraqi parliament held a periodic meeting on Tuesday as part of a parliamentary plan to address the province's problems and outstanding issues away from political or sectarian affiliations and differences.
Diyala's deputies announced earlier the formation of a team that includes all deputies to address the province's problems in coordination with government ministries and relevant departments in Diyala.
The representative of the Sovereignty Alliance, Raad Al-Dahlaki, said in a press conference after the meeting, which was attended by Shafak News Agency, that "the representatives of Diyala discussed with the directors of water and agricultural resources the drought and water scarcity crisis in the province and ways to confront it to secure basic water needs."
Al-Dahlaki pointed out that "the water problems in Diyala are due to the lack of revenues from the Tigris River, rivers and riparian streams with the Iranian side, and the failure to grant Iraq its water quotas in accordance with the international charters and norms in force."
He stressed that "a parliamentary delegation from Diyala, in coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources and the Iraqi government, will visit neighboring countries and negotiate with them about Iraq's water quotas in accordance with the principle of harm-sharing in accordance with the laws and customs related to drought crises and scarcity of water resources."
Meanwhile, the representative of the "Azm" coalition affiliated with the Sovereignty Alliance, Muhammad Qutaiba al-Bayati, announced to Shafaq News Agency, "a comprehensive plan and multiple measures to revive vital projects suspended in Diyala over the past years, whose costs exceed 500 billion dinars."
Al-Bayati held the concerned ministries "responsible for the failure and delay in completing and completing projects," noting that "Diyala's deputies are determined to obtain the province's rights from service projects, which are a major urban renaissance in Diyala that has been deprived of it over the past years."
In turn, the representative for Diyala, Nawras Mahmoud Al-Issa, revealed a "comprehensive evaluation plan for the performance of the directors of the departments in Diyala and to diagnose the shortcomings and service failures towards the governorate and the citizen in particular."
She told Shafaq News Agency, "There are changes that will affect several service departments in accordance with professional standards and balance, and granting all components their rights in the administrative and service field away from domination and marginalization or narrow partisan and factional conflicts."
Diyala suffers from major service problems due to security turmoil and partisan and sectarian conflicts over the past years, which made the governorate the worst in terms of service, according to officials and citizens.
