Will the dollar rate be reduced to 120? Finance attached
Shafaq News/ On Thursday, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Taif Sami, denied the news that the ministry intends to reduce the exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar.
Sami said in a statement, "There is no truth to the news circulating on social media and attributed to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance that there are ongoing discussions to re-reduce the price of the dollar to 120 thousand dinars within the 2022 budget."
He added, "The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance does not have any page on social media."
On December 19, 2020, the Central Bank of Iraq officially announced the adjustment of the foreign exchange rate (the US dollar) to 145,000 dinars for every $100, according to the state’s general budget for the year 2021 approved by the House of Representatives.
This prompted the annual inflation in Iraq to rise significantly after raising the dollar exchange rate against the dinar in the 2021 budget.
Also, the prices of materials and goods in the Iraqi market witnessed a remarkable increase in conjunction with the devaluation of the dinar, which sparked a wave of strong resentment among the popular circles, as well as the objections of some interested in economic affairs.
