The Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Abdul-Jabbar, said that "the Basra-Aqaba project is old and dates back to 1983," stressing that "the ministry's directions are to change the philosophy of the project from an investor to a government, and the approval of the Prime Minister has been approved."
He added, "The project was referred at the time of the Abdul-Mahdi government," noting that "many project designs were changed to reach $8 billion."
He pointed out that "the Basra-Aqaba project is vital and strategic," noting that "the Basra-Aqaba project falls within the multiplicity of oil export outlets."
He explained, "The media excitement about the Aqaba project may be political," stressing that "Iraq needs to secure its oil exports and revenues by opening new export outlets."

For his part, Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, Basem Muhammad Khudair, said during the program: "The company's goal is to preserve the hydrocarbon wealth," noting that "the exploration company works with Iraqi cadres 100 percent."
