The four Iraqi presidencies: Political turmoil affects the security and safety of citizens, and escalation must be prevented
Shafaq News/ The four Iraqi presidencies (the republic, ministers, parliament and the judiciary) saw on Wednesday that the political turmoil affects the security and safety of citizens, and also stressed the prevention of escalation.
A major statement received by Shafaq News said, "The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, hosted today, Wednesday, a meeting that included Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, to study the recent developments in the country and the repercussions thereof."
The meeting stressed that "the continuation of the state of political turmoil negatively affects national efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability and preserving the security and safety of citizens, and this calls for an active and serious stance from all to prevent escalation and adopt the national dialogue as the only way to resolve crises."
The meeting pointed to "the need to take all steps to resume effective dialogue committed to the foundations of the supreme national interest, protect civil and social peace, reassure citizens, and take the necessary measures to remedy the current crisis."
He stressed, "the need to protect all state institutions and preserve their prestige and independence in accordance with legal and constitutional contexts." The meeting pointed out that "peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion is a constitutionally guaranteed right, with the need to adhere to regulations and laws, maintain public security and public property, and deal with demands in accordance with legal and constitutional frameworks."
The meeting stressed that "the duty of the security forces in all their formations is to protect stability in the country and preserve public security and public property, and the need not to involve them in political disputes under any circumstance, as it is the guarantee to protect the homeland and citizens, and that the responsibility of the state and its constitutional institutions is to preserve the security and rights of Iraqis."
He pointed out that "the continuation of political crises affects Iraq's role in the international community, and may also affect the disruption of cooperation, understandings and agreements concluded in various fields, especially those that affect the living and service needs of citizens."
The conferees stressed the "necessity for the concerted efforts of all authorities, political forces and social actors, to close ranks and take unified, serious and decisive positions to remedy the crisis in accordance with the peaceful and democratic constitutional path."
