    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Sunday (May 19, 2024), Chairman of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, Faleh Khazali, revealed the provision of financial allocations to purchase 11,000 candidates for transition to modern agriculture.
Al-Khazali said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Part of supporting the agricultural sector in Iraq is to achieve a rapid transition to the principle of modern agriculture through irrigation systems, including sprinklers, in order to exploit water in economic feasibility that contributes to a greater increase in production according to modern standards."
He added, "Budget transfers were made through the Ministry of Agriculture and with the support of the Prime Minister to provide financial allocations to purchase 11,000 advanced filters," indicating that "the number of sprayers that were imported and distributed to farmers from 2011-2022 reached only 4,500 sprinklers, which reflects government efforts." In the field of qualitative transition in the application of modern irrigation systems.
Al-Khazali stated, “Iraq is on the verge of achieving sufficiency in the wheat crop, whose production is expected to reach more than 6 million tons, especially with the government’s decision to open the doors to marketing the crop, whether within the plan or outside it, as part of supportive efforts for farmers.”
It is noteworthy that a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, Thaer Al-Jubouri, revealed on (April 20, 2024) that there are three steps to secure the marketing of the wheat crop in Iraq.
Al-Jubouri said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "There is an early government interest in the issue of the wheat harvest season and securing marketing outlets in the governorates, especially with its recent decision to receive all production, both within the plan and outside it, within the framework of greater support for farmers and investing the abundance of production in enhancing the capabilities of strategic storage." of grains.
He pointed out that "there are three steps that have actually been taken to secure the wheat marketing season: a broad civil defense plan to deploy near the wheat fields in anticipation of any emergency and immediate intervention in putting out fires if they occur, as well as a backup plan for the security forces in areas witnessing ISIS remnants activity." Pointing out that "here there will be round-the-clock follow-up of the harvesters all the way to marketing, in coordination with the security services in accordance with the requirements of the situation, while monitoring the ports to prevent the entry of any imported wheat."
He explained, "Wheat field fires in past seasons caused damage to a significant number of farmers, most of which were motivated by terrorism due to the proximity of the liberated areas. However, taking a series of precautionary steps reduced the fires last season by up to 95%, and this is a positive thing."
Al-Jubouri added, “All expectations indicate that grain production in Iraq will be at reassuring levels despite the impact of drought in large areas and the reduction of plans at the beginning of the season,” stressing that “the state has taken all measures in order to create flexibility in the delivery of the wheat crop with the payment of dues.”
