Shafaq News/ The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani announced, on Monday, his government's intention to implement the "Student Grant" law as part of the plan to confront multidimensional poverty, while stressing Iraq's need for 8,000 new school buildings.

In a statement received by Shafaq News agency, the Prime Minister's Media Office stated that Al-Sudani held an expanded meeting, the first of its kind, with the chairman and members of the Parliamentary Education Committee, and was briefed on the parliamentarians' proposals aimed at developing the education sector and advancing all its aspects.
During the meeting, the problems that the education sector suffers from in the field of infrastructure were discussed in terms of providing school buildings and equipment, and housing for educators, in addition to discussing the amendment of some instructions related to land donation and printing of textbooks, and deliberating a proposal to legislate the teacher protection law.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government's interest in the education sector, which faces a number of challenges, pointing to the government's progress in implementing its government program to improve the reality of education in the field of infrastructure and curriculum development.
He explained, "The governorates of Iraq need 8,000 schools, which may take years to build, but the financial budget carries remedies and solutions, through the Iraq Fund for Development and with the participation of the private sector."
He pointed to "the government's determination to confront multidimensional poverty, through the implementation of the Student Grant Law for poor families covered by social protection," stressing "the possibility of addressing all current problems, in close coordination and cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities."
In turn, the members of the Parliamentary Committee praised the government's efforts in supporting the social protection file and motivating the children of poor families to engage in education, and providing school trips to schools that were suffering from a great scarcity, appreciating the Cabinet's decisions to install lecturers, whose number reached more than 300 thousand.
