    Baghdad today - Erbil
The margin of freedom, democracy and civil society has been for years something that the ruling power parties in the Kurdistan region are proud of, which has enjoyed semi-independent rule since 1991.
The partisan, family, and apparent hidden conflict was and still is the biggest barrier to progress opportunities for the Kurdistan region, despite the explosive financial budgets, in addition to its export of oil and other revenues that it obtains from border crossings, taxes, etc., not to mention the unlimited international support that the Kurds receive, especially from the United States of America. .
    Curse of the referendum
It seems that the insistence of the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, to hold the referendum and the stubbornness of the international community and regional countries, was the "straw that broke the camel's back", and was the beginning of the collapse of relations between the Kurds and their Western allies.
Over the past years, a number of officials, parliamentarians and leaders of the Kurdish opposition have warned of the tragic situation in the Kurdistan region, calling on the international community to pay attention to the deteriorating situation the region is suffering at all levels.
The general situation in Kurdistan in all respects, foremost of which is the economic situation, since 2014, and the entry of ISIS and its control over a number of regions of the country, the population of the region has been in a spiral of salaries, sometimes they are completely deducted, and sometimes a large part of them is deducted, and sometimes they are delayed for more than From 50 days, in addition to the high rates of poverty, unemployment and high taxes, not to mention the insane rise in fuel and fuel prices.
Various press sources confirm that warnings were issued by local and foreign officials to the Kurdish leaders of the need to improve the conditions of the region, and to end the tragic reality experienced by the Kurdish citizen.
    Threat from the international coalition
The international coalition, led by the United States, has threatened on more than one occasion to cut off financial and military supplies to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, in the event that they do not unite under "one banner".
The UN representative in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, warned during her recent visit to the Kurdistan region and her attendance at the Sulaymaniyah International Forum of the collapse of the situation in the region, and urged the Kurdish leaders to expedite the solution of their internal problems.
Where a report on the website of the American magazine “Foreign Policy”, which specializes in foreign policy affairs, talked about the crises that the Kurdistan region of Iraq suffers from at the political, economic and administrative levels, and the extent of divisions, a region that was once a bright spot in Iraq, and the publication of the report coincided with a report by the Ministry of Interior. The US State Department, who also spoke of a decline in human rights and freedoms in the region.
There are repeated warnings of the restriction of public freedoms and the decline of human rights in the Kurdistan region, and the conditions there appear bleak in light of the institutions torn apart due to partisan divisions and the control of leaders who deprive their citizens of freedom of expression.
In its annual report, the US State Department expresses its concern about the human rights situation in the region, and confirms in the report that the conditions of journalists and freedom of expression are at a bad level.
The US State Department also points out in part of the report about the poor conditions of prisoners and detainees in the region and their exposure to beatings and torture, and the lack of accountability for those who practice such violations by the government.
The Consul General of the United States in Erbil, Irvin Hicks, has repeatedly warned of the decline in the human rights situation and violations in the region, as she declared: The United States is concerned about the decline of human rights and freedom of expression in part of the Kurdistan region.
Exclusivity of power is the reason
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Faeq Yazidi, confirms that what was stated in the report is a small part of the number of great problems that the Kurdistan region suffers from.
Yazidi explained in an interview with (Baghdad Today) that "the situation in the region is more like a spider's house than a house of cards, due to the monopoly of power pursued by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, family rule, the acquisition of financial capabilities, oil smuggling, and the deprivation of the Kurdish citizen of his most basic rights."
Basdar Hassan, head of the defense lawyers team for the Bahdinan detainees, who are a group of activists arrested by the Kurdish Asayish forces on charges of inciting demonstrations, indicated in a post on his Facebook page that the report issued by the US State Department fully reflects the internal situation in the region, because it Unfortunately, the human rights situation is very bad and the violations are increasing day by day, refuting the information of the Coordinator of International Recommendations in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dindar Zebari, after describing the US State Department report dealing with human rights in the region as non-transparent, unrealistic and duplicative.
And the Kurdistan Regional Government had arrested more than 80 activists in August 2020, on the background of their activity in issues related to freedom of opinion and expression and their demand for a set of their basic rights, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Council for Human Rights, and Basdar Hassan and his team assumed the responsibility of defending the detainees free of charge, and the Ministry granted him The US State Department recently awarded the Human Rights Defenders Award around the world, among 10 other personalities from different countries.
The National Union accuses Masrour Barzani
The deputy head of the National Union bloc in the Kurdistan Region Parliament, Luqman Wardi, said in a tweet to him on Twitter, "The regional government headed by Masrour Barzani is the worst by all standards over the course of 32 years, which international reports and consuls of foreign countries warn of," and stresses that "the regional government has to Reviewing its policies instead of seeking to respond to the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and friendly countries.
The independent Kurdish politician Latif Al-Sheikh goes far to confirm that the United States of America is tired of its Kurdish allies, and wants an alternative.
He added in his interview with (Baghdad Today), that "on more than one occasion, media and international reports and human rights organizations warned of the bad conditions and the deterioration of the Kurdish citizen's reality, and demanded the regional government to improve the citizen's living reality and end partisan differences."
He explained, "The recent report of the US State Department and Foreign Policy magazine confirms that US officials are fed up with the actions of the leaders of the ruling power parties in Kurdistan."
    Police government
The former Kurdish MP, Yusra Rajab, confirmed that the security authorities in the region are arresting everyone who expresses his opinion in Kurdistan.
Rajab said in a press statement followed by (Baghdad Today), that "arrest is the fate of those who write a post on social media criticizing the Kurdistan Regional Government or the ruling parties, accusing Masrour Barzani's government of being a "police government."
Last year, dozens of Iraqi youth drowned on the borders of Belarus, most of whom were residents of the Kurdistan region, which confirms that the conditions in the region are no longer livable, forcing them to choose difficult paths, enduring hardship and risking their lives, with the aim of reaching Europe.
A Kurdish organization in Erbil earlier this year conducted an opinion poll on the support of the Kurds to return to Baghdad and end the region, and the results were shocking, as the Kurdish majority supported the return under the authority of the federal government.
The Kurdish journalist, Muhammad Raouf, conducted a poll about the Kurds' agreement to export oil through Baghdad, or to keep exporting it within the regional government. The majority, by 88%, agreed to export it under the supervision of the federal government.
