The Ministry of Transport formed a higher committee to manage the plan for transporting visitors during the fortieth day of Imam Hussein (PBUH), at a time when the Ministry of Interior identified four land border crossings that operate around the clock to receive foreign visitors, whose numbers this year are estimated to range between 3-5 million visitors.
The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis, said during his visit to Karbala Governorate: The ministry is striving to provide services to all visitors, as modern boats were provided to transport Iranian visitors during the days of the visit.
He pointed out that the Holy Karbala witnessed this year a qualitative boom through the construction of new streets that contribute to facilitating the transportation process, pointing to the formation of a supreme committee to follow up and manage the plan and effort of the ministry, to undertake supervision, management and follow-up of the plan, as it was authorized with all the necessary powers to make its tasks a success in coordination with the relevant authorities. It is noteworthy that the General Company for Railways will be present with its DMU trains to transport passengers back and forth from Baghdad and Basra towards the holy city of Karbala.
For his part, the Holy Governor of Karbala, Eng. Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, told Al-Sabah: Discussions took place with the Minister of Transport regarding joint preparations and coordination between the two sides to develop a transport plan commensurate with the size of the visit and what was introduced this year in terms of road expansion and the establishment of new ones that contribute to improving the process. For his part, Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari announced the identification of four international land border crossings that operate around the clock to receive foreign visitors to commemorate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (PBUH) in Karbala, expecting nearly five million visitors to enter the country.
And the Supreme Security Committee to secure the Arbaeen visit, headed by the Minister of Interior, the Commander of the Ground Forces, the Undersecretary of the National Security Apparatus, the police and intelligence agents in the Ministry of the Interior and the Assistant of the Popular Mobilization Operations, arrived in Dhi Qar Governorate yesterday, to see the details of the security plans in five provinces, which are Basra, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Muthanna and Wasit. He explained that these five provinces are the starting point towards Karbala, as well as the presence of international land border crossings (Safwan, Shalamja, Al-Shaib, Zurbatiya), indicating that these crossings will be operational around the clock for the entry of foreign visitors from the Arab Gulf states and Iran.
Al-Shammari estimated that the number of visitors who will enter through these outlets ranges between 3-5 million visitors, noting that the visit plan will come into effect from August 19 until September 9.
