On Monday, the Minister of Construction, Housing and Municipalities, Bankin Rikani, announced the opening of bids for 5 new residential cities in five governorates, while indicating that these cities will include units for people with special needs.

Rikani said, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the bids have been opened for 5 new residential cities in five governorates, which are (Baghdad, Holy Karbala, Anbar, Nineveh, and Babel)."
He pointed out that "the National Investment Commission, the Ministry and the concerned governorates have formed analysis committees to study the bids during the coming period, and will make recommendations and referrals to the best bid."
He stated, "There are promising future projects to alleviate the housing crisis in Iraq," pointing out that "these residential cities include other activities for people with special needs and special units for them, and they are being implemented for the first time in Iraq since the eighties of the last century."
He explained, "The designs of the cities are different and vary between vertical and horizontal housing units, which are of different building degrees and with large, medium and small areas, and with full services and are available to all segments of society," noting that "the cost of the new cities is estimated at billions of dollars, and depends on the bids."
