Specialists: the need to establish courts to deal with violations against the environment

Specialists demanded the establishment of environmental courts to deal with violations and abuses of water, air and soil, in addition to the importance of activating the environmental police, at the same time as they demanded the investment of research centers in universities to identify problems and find solutions to them.
This came during the second conference to discuss environmental issues, which was held yesterday, Wednesday, in Baghdad, in coordination with Mercy Corps, and included a number of ministries, specialists, and relevant authorities.
Environmental expert Dr. Ibrahim Al-Salman said, in his speech to "Al-Sabah", on the sidelines of the conference, that the next few period will witness the completion of the formulation of the national strategy for environmental protection, which identified pollution indicators, work mechanisms and allocated amounts, and activate the role of the executive authorities, through scientific and planning monitoring and the capabilities of the state. Activating and revitalizing research centers in universities that extend from 2023 to 2030.
And he noted that the solution lies in resorting to universities and specialized research centers to develop effective solutions to the problems of soil, water, air, desertification, waste and radiation, indicating that any environmental problem is also solved through two axes, the first is international investment, and the second axis is the return to the popular national effort through youth volunteer teams to improve the environmental reality. .
For his part, the physicist presenter specializing in climate change, Mustafa Abdel-Hassan, director of the environmental police for the Karkh side, indicated in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that the file of environmental security needs support as it is a grave danger that is no less than the file of terrorism and drugs, especially after Iraq ranked fifth in terms of being affected by climate change. , warning that climate changes are divided into natural as a result of global environmental deterioration and other industrial ones through humans through irregularities, as they are dealt with through the provision of technical resources, training, preparation, curriculum and action plans.
In her turn, the expert Saadia Fleih Hassoun, head of the Association (Together for the Protection of Humanity and the Environment), called during her interview with "Al-Sabah" to develop and modernize the work of the environmental police, provide financial allocations, increase its employees and train them, in addition to establishing environmental courts, judges and lawyers specialized in this file, noting the importance of protecting natural resources and bulldozing Lands and the protection of rivers from tampering and dumping of waste, with the importance of stopping the excesses of state institutions and the private sector by throwing waste into rivers.
