{Economist: Al Furat News} Energy expert Furat Al Mousawi revealed today, Friday, the reason for the government's intentions to build a nuclear reactor.
Al-Moussawi told Al-Furat News agency, "The Iraqi government has been discussing for some time the idea of initiating the establishment of a limited nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes and the production of clean electric energy that could contribute to reducing dependence on other energy resources such as gas and oil."
He pointed out that "because of the Iraqi government's signing of the Paris Agreement on climate change, there are several steps that the government must take to reduce carbon emissions and diversify energy sources away from the use of fossil fuels that pollute the environment. For this reason, the governments of the countries of the region are working to establish peaceful, environmentally friendly nuclear reactors."
And he indicated that "Iraq is striving to apply these important technologies in the sustainability and sustainability of energy and to catch up with the developed world in the field of clean energy use, with the support of the World Bank and international support from friendly and developed countries in this field."
He explained that this "collides, of course, with the large amount of money and infrastructure necessary for the size of such a strategic and vital project for Iraq, especially for the development road project to be established, because this giant project will need a large amount of energy for its sustainability," pointing out that "Iraq will not be able to provide this energy." Only by diversifying energy sources.
