    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The head of the Parliamentary Rights Bloc, Saud Al-Saadi, responded today, Tuesday (October 31, 2023), regarding the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry’s request, by having the Iraqi government issue an explanation of its position on crossing the lines dividing the two countries, and infringing on Kuwait’s sovereignty.
Al-Saadi said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "At a time when we were waiting for the Prime Minister and the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs to implement the decision of the Federal Supreme Court No. 105 and its unified No. 194/Federal/2023 issued on 9/4/2023, which included the unconstitutionality of the law." No. 43 of 2013 (Law Ratifying the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the State of Kuwait regarding the regulation of maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah), in addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issuing a statement of protest or response to the decision of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries taken on 9/17/2023 or a response to The State of Kuwait’s protest against the decision of the Federal Supreme Court above.”
He added: "We were surprised that the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed us of the phone call between the Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister and the Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait, which included baseless accusations."
He pointed out that, “Based on our representative duty on behalf of the Iraqi people with all its components in accordance with Article (49/First) of the Constitution, we emphasize moving forward by completing the legal procedures and issuing an official warning against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which refrains from implementing the decision of the Federal Supreme Court mentioned above despite It has absolute authority and is binding on all authorities inside and outside Iraq in accordance with Article 94 of the Constitution, in addition to obliging the government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, to deposit and register the decision of the Federal Supreme Court mentioned above with the General Secretariat of the United Nations.”
Al-Saadi stressed, “Khor Abdullah Al-Iraqi (Al-Tamimi) is part of Iraqi sovereignty that must be protected by the President and members of the House of Representatives, the President and members of the Council of Ministers, and all public authorities in Iraq in accordance with the provisions of Articles 1, 50, 79, and 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005.”
The head of the rights bloc called on "Kuwait to respect bilateral relations between the two countries, and not to resort to illegal methods in leveling arbitrary accusations against those who defend Iraqi sovereignty."
He concluded by saying: “We pledge to the Iraqi people that we will complete what we have begun of constitutional appeals before the Federal Supreme Court to recover the established historical sovereign rights of Iraq from the State of Kuwait, whether related to encroachment on Iraqi oil wealth in fields shared with Kuwait or other decisions or protocols signed between The two states violate Iraq's complete and undiminished national sovereignty over Iraqi lands and waters.
Earlier, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry called on the Iraqi authorities to clarify the position of the head of the Parliamentary Rights Bloc, Saud Al-Saadi, regarding his crossing the lines dividing the two countries and issuing threats towards Kuwait.
According to a document issued by the Foreign Ministry on August 28, and obtained by “Baghdad Today,” “the Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab World Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Al-Bakr, made a phone call to the Iraqi Ambassador, Al-Manhal Al-Safi, on 8/10/2023, regarding a video clip published on the platform.” YouTube shows Member of Parliament Saud Al-Saadi, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, gathering on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border, crossing the border line separating the two countries, and entering Kuwaiti territory.
She explained, “Al-Saadi made some threats towards Kuwait, and Ambassador Ahmed Al-Bakr stated that this call was friendly and brotherly and not a protest, but rather his country’s authority is requesting an official clarification from the Iraqi authorities for this step taken by Representative Saud Al-Saadi and his accompanying delegation, stressing that passing The dividing line between the two countries without official permission is an infringement on Kuwait’s sovereignty.”
