Shafaq News/ A source from within the coordination framework revealed, on Wednesday, the existence of a division within the framework forces that represent the ruling Shiite forces in the country over two Sunni MP candidates to succeed the deposed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi.
The source, who requested not to be revealed, told Shafaq News Agency that the Sunni blocs have two candidates in their hands to succeed the Speaker of the House of Representatives in his position, one of whom is MP Salem Al-Issawi, who is the candidate of the “Taqaddum” Party headed by Muhammad Al-Halbousi, the Sovereignty Alliance led by Khamis Al-Khanjar, and the second candidate is Muthanna. Al-Samarrai, head of the "Al-Azm" coalition.
He explained that "the coordination framework did not agree on a specific candidate, and there is currently a division over the candidates," adding that "the State of Law bloc supports Al-Issawi's nomination, while the Al-Fatah Alliance supports Muthanna Al-Samarrai."
The source noted that the Sunni blocs also did not agree on a specific candidate, which delays the decision on the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives and postpones the vote until the evening or tomorrow, Thursday.

Meanwhile, an informed parliamentary source told the agency that the House of Representatives session today, Wednesday, will not witness the election of a new Speaker of the Council, due to the continuing differences between the Sunni political forces, with a division in the positions of the Coordination Framework forces, and for this reason the item on electing the President will be removed from the agenda.
He pointed out that the session will be held to vote on extending the work of the Commission.

In an official statement yesterday, Tuesday, the Alliance for Progress and Sovereignty authorized the heads of the coalition, Muhammad al-Halbousi and Khamis al-Khanjar, to choose the alternative name to fill the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives after it vacated.
The Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives decided to officially terminate the membership of Council Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, based on the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, as of November 14, 2023.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives decided to devote its session scheduled to be held today, Wednesday, to elect a new Speaker of the Council after the position became vacant.
On Tuesday, November 14, the Federal Supreme Court, “the highest judicial authority in Iraq,” announced the termination of the membership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed against him by Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (Al-Dulaimi’s) resignation from membership in the House of Representatives. As a result, the Federal Court ruled to terminate their membership (Al-Halbousi and Al-Dulaimi).
