    The Holy Karbala Agriculture Directorate announced its self-sufficiency in vegetables and that the surplus will be exported to the rest of the governorates, in addition to a significant increase in wheat and barley crops.
    The Director of Karbala Agriculture, Muhammad Al-Tayyar, said in a statement to an official newspaper followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that our agricultural plan for this season focused on supporting the farmer in preparing seeds for farmers and urging them to exploit agricultural contracts of land and cultivate them, as we were able this season to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetable crops. 
    He added, the plan for the current winter season amounted to more than 4,500 dunums for the tomato crop, in addition to the cultivation of various crops such as cucumbers, eggplants, potatoes, trees, onions, leafy vegetables and other vegetable products, as Karbala was distinguished by its abundant production of these crops, which fill the needs of the local market and the surplus is marketed to the rest of the governorates. 
    He pointed out that our agricultural plan for this season for the wheat and barley crops was characterized by the use of pivotal sprinklers, as the cultivation of the wheat crop was expanded by exploiting the wide desert areas west and south of the city using well water through the deployment of pivotal and fixed sprinklers in the irrigation process. It is expected that this season will witness an increase in production. Reaching more than 200 thousand tons compared to last year, in which approximately 143 thousand tons were marketed. 
    He explained that the local markets in the governorate need more than 23 thousand tons of tomato crops per day, according to expectations, and that our production has a surplus of more than 55 thousand tons that will be distributed to the markets of other governorates, indicating that Karbala is one of the most important governorates in the production of tomatoes and vegetables, especially in The desert area using drip irrigation through artesian wells.
