    The Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kazem, announced on Thursday that the Baghdad metro will see the light soon, stressing that it will cover about 80% of the city’s areas.
    A statement from the secretariat received by Al-Maalouma quoted the Mayor of Baghdad as saying, “The Council of Ministers session last Tuesday approved the necessary financial allocations to contract with an international consulting company to provide an integrated vision for implementing the Baghdad metro.”
    He added, "The Baghdad Metro project is one of the old projects for which the Baghdad Municipality prepared several studies that did not see the light due to the inability to implement them because it required the acquisition of a large amount of land and the expenditure of large sums of money."
    He continued, "Today's services government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has prepared a new vision for managing the metro file, and we are moving forward vigorously to implement it, and very soon this project will see the light to serve the people of the capital."
    He pointed out that "the proposed new areas of the metro will cover approximately 80% of the areas of the city of Baghdad, which will contribute to addressing traffic congestion and meeting the transportation requirements of residential complexes and densely populated areas."
    For his part, the Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transport Affairs confirmed that the metro project is now one of the priorities of the Iraqi government and is being personally monitored by the Prime Minister, and a contract is being made with a specialized advisory body that is considered the best in the world in the field of trains.
