    Economy News _ Baghdad
At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities began implementing the electronic water safety system in cooperation with UNICEF, while completing nearly half of the water sector automation project in the country.
The Director of Water at the Ministry, Engineer Ammar Al-Maliki, told Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that his directorate, in coordination with UNICEF, began at the beginning of this year a project to implement an electronic water safety system in 15 governorates, indicating that this was done through a system for transferring data on test results. Which is conducted in laboratories belonging to the water directorates in the governorates and simultaneously to the public laboratories in Baghdad, after which the results of physical, chemical and bacteriological tests begin to be audited and monitored on a daily basis. In the same context, he stated that the water sector automation project has been implemented since 2019 and includes a complete transition from manual handling to paper and electronic collection, through the installation of water meters, pointing out that the directorate has completed about half of the project in 8 governorates: Baghdad, Holy Karbala, Najaf Al-Ashraf, and Diyala. Kirkuk and Nineveh, in addition to the governorates of Muthanna and Basra,
In addition, Al-Maliki confirmed that the technical staff of the Directorate have so far installed 500 standards in the governorates that have witnessed its implementation, stressing at the same time that automation works to reduce consumption and wasteful use of water, in addition to eliminating financial and administrative corruption, since the dealings will be exclusively electronic.
