Parliamentary culture: A move to amend the law on freedom of expression of opinion

The Parliamentary Culture and Media Committee is moving to amend the law on freedom of expression of opinion and proceed with its legislation, noting the necessity of abolishing most of the articles and paragraphs that deal with the punitive aspect.
A statement by the Parliament’s Media Department stated that “the Culture and Media Committee, headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Samia Al-Ghallab, and in the presence of Committee member Nahla Al-Afandi, participated in the dialogue session that was held in the city of Erbil.”
He added, "The dialogue session discussed the draft law on freedom of expression, assembly, and peaceful demonstration, with the participation of a number of parliamentary committees in cooperation with the Kurdistan Organization for Human Rights."
He continued, "The attendees studied the observations and proposals presented, and it was agreed to include them in the draft law and make appropriate amendments to some paragraphs and articles sent by the government, in addition to other additions and amendments put forward by specialists in order to come up with a mature law that serves all segments and is consistent with the general principles of human rights and international conventions." that takes into account rights and duties.”
