With the exception of Kurdistan, Diyala, Kirkuk, Diwaniyah, and Maysan, the Iraqi provincial councils finished naming their local governments, after voting on choosing governors, heads of local councils, and most representatives during the past two days.
Most of the candidates agreed upon in accordance with the alliances and agreements of the winning political blocs reached the leadership of the key positions in the governorates, as the winning Sunni blocs in the capital, (Sovereignty, Determination and National Decisiveness), formed the “Baghdad Bloc,” without the “Taqaddum” Party, which is led by former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi. The “Baghdad Bloc” obtained the position of Chairman of the Baghdad Provincial Council by naming Ammar al-Qaisi from “Al-Azm” as president, while the State of Law, led by Nouri al-Maliki, which is part of the coordination framework, obtained the position of governor by naming Abdul Muttalib al-Alawi as governor.
Hani Abdel-Jabbar from the “Al-Basas” coalition, headed by the acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, obtained the position of first deputy governor, while Zulfiqar Fayyad obtained the position of second deputy from the “Nabni” coalition, headed by Hadi Al-Amiri. As for the deputy speaker of the House, it was obtained by Muhammad Jassim from “We build” too.
In Anbar, the Taqadum Party obtained all the key positions. It named the director of Al-Halbousi’s office, Muhammad Nouri Al-Karbouli, as governor, Yasser Al-Muhanna as administrative deputy governor, and Khaled Thuwaini as technical deputy, while Omar Mishaan Dabbous was named head of the council, and Akram Khamis Al-Mahlawi as his deputy.
As for Salah al-Din, Ahmed al-Jubouri “Abu Mazen,” from the Mass Party, which was at the forefront in the recent election results, assumed the position of governor, and Adel al-Sumaidaie, from the “National Resolution” Party, assumed the presidency of the council, while Ayman al-Ajili from the Mass Party was voted as first deputy governor. Tariq Al-Fahd from the “Taqaddum” Party was chosen as second deputy, while Mohamed Attiya from the Sovereignty Alliance was chosen as vice-president of the council.
Nineveh renewed confidence in Governor Abdul Qader al-Dakhil from the “Nineveh for its People” party, led by former governor Najm al-Jubouri. The governorate is awaiting the selection of two deputies for Al-Dakhil during next Thursday’s session.
Karbala also renewed confidence in its governor, Nassif Al-Khattabi from the “Karbala Creativity” list, and Ali Al-Mayali from the same list as his deputy, while Qasim Al-Yasari from “Nabni” obtained the position of Chairman of the Provincial Council and Mahfouz Al-Tamimi from the Governor’s List as Vice-President.
The third governorate that renewed confidence in its governor is Wasit, as the provincial council elected Muhammad Jamil al-Mayahi from the “Wasit Ajmal” list for a second term by majority, and Ghazanfar al-Batikh from “Nabni” as first deputy. As for the second deputy, his nomination was postponed, but the rule of law is closest to his job, and with regard to the presidency of the council. It went to Ali Hussein Sulaiman from “Nabni”, and Wanis Al-Shammari (a woman) also from “Nabni” as Vice President of the Council.
The fourth governorate is Basra, where its council voted to elect Asaad Al-Eidani from the “Tasmeem” bloc as governor for a second term unanimously, while Khalaf Al-Badran from “Nabni” was chosen as president of the council and Osama Al-Saad from the governor’s bloc as his deputy, and the election of the two deputy governors was postponed until the nominated names were agreed upon. .
