    [size=45]The Digital Media Center (DMC) called for the adoption of virtual visits for inmates in Iraqi prisons. The center stated in a statement that “recent developments in the digital world today have created new opportunities and possibilities to improve the quality of life, facilitate procedures, and reduce obstacles facing individuals in various fields and sectors, including Among them is the prison sector.” The center pointed out that “technology, in its various forms, is an effective tool in addressing problems and confronting various challenges, including the problem of communication between inmates and those detained in prisons and their families, especially during special times such as holidays and events.”[/size]
    [size=45]The center called on “the Iraqi legislator to adopt an amendment to the text of Article 26 of the Inmates and Detainees Reform Law No. 14 of 2018, with the aim of providing virtual visits to inmates and detainees in prisons, which contributes to enhancing communication between them and their families in safe and effective ways.”[/size]
    [size=45]The center quoted legal researcher Hussein Al-Mawla as saying, “Virtual visits will contribute to alleviating the feeling of isolation and loneliness among inmates and depositors, and provide them with a means to communicate with their families and loved ones on a regular basis, even at times when personal visits may not be possible, and these visits also strengthen bonds.” The family helps in rehabilitating inmates and detainees psychologically and socially.”[/size]
